Downwell Group support the Essex Wildlife Trust

Essex Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading conservation charity. It has more than 35,800 members, manages and protects over 8,400 acres of land on 87 nature reserves, 2 nature parks and runs 11 visitor centres. The aim of Essex Wildlife Trust is to Protect Wildlife for the Future and for the people of Essex.

The Downwell Group have joined the Essex Wildlife Trust as a Gold Member. Business Development Manager Alan Knight and Project Co-ordinator and Drone Pilot Matthew High met with Grant Maton, Corporate Communications Officer at the Trusts Thurrock Nature Park. Grant presented Alan with our certificate of membership which will be displayed in our reception at Newcastle House.

We also took ‘Dave’ the Drone along to capture some images from above.

The Downwell Group will be offering support to the Trust by donating Dave the Drones time to their marketing department for promotional use. The Trust hold a lot of networking events where members can interact with each other.

Unfortunately the weather was a bit wet and windy yesterday so Dave was unable to stay in the air for long.

About Thurrock Nature Park

Thurrock is a stunning and innovative visitor centre built on a former landfill site, with superb views over Mucking Flats SSSI and the Thames Estuary (SPA). There are footpaths and cycle ways in 120 acres of this nature park,

Thurrock Thameside Nature Park is situated on the Thames Estuary and is fantastic for family days out, bird and ship watching, historical interest and getting away from the hustle and bustle.

The views across the Thames Estuary are stunning, especially from the fully accessible rooftop viewing deck which offers 360 degree views of the nature park and Thames.

The visitor centre has a café with full length windows for viewing the estuary, gift shop, toilets with baby changing and a bird hide with wheelchair access which overlook the SSSI mudflats a short walk away.

There is a wonderful natural play and picnic area for families to enjoy. Dogs are welcome on leads and events are held throughout the year with free parking.

The site which was once landfill and has been given back to nature is 120 acres at present and will eventually be 845 acres, it is a tremendous habitat for coastal and wetland wildlife, as well as very important grassland flora and fauna species.

The Nature Park is important for many species including Barn Owls, Short Eared Owls, Water Voles, Harvest Mouse, Skylark, Cuckoo and Shrill Carder Bee. However, these are not the only beneficiaries, local Cattle also graze the grassland during the year.

The area is an avian hotspot and throughout the year there are overwintering and migrant bird species residing at the park. There are internationally important numbers of Ringed Plover and Avocets and nationally important numbers of Grey Plover, DunlinGodwit and Redshank as well as a treasure trove of butterflies, moths and bees.Downwell Group

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement - Wednesday 25th March

The Prime Minister’s announcement on Monday evening signalled the introduction of more stringent restrictions on us all and has specifically indicated that members of the public should only leave their home for very limited purposes. The message indicates that we should travel to and from work, only where this is absolutely necessary.

The management of the Downwell Group of companies which includes: Downwell Demolition, Inner City Environmental and Inner City Scaffolding has very carefully considered both the meaning and the spirit of the Prime Minister’s statement and whilst there has been some clarification from government subsequently that building sites could continue to operate, we came to the very clear decision yesterday that it was necessary for us, as a responsible contractor, to safely and securely close down our operational sites as soon as reasonably possible. Doing so will assist in maintaining the wellbeing of our customers, employees, sub-contractors, suppliers and the wider communities within which we build.

All sites have been closed down in a safe and secure manner and will remain closed until further notice.

We would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the key workers on the frontline who are continiung working for the good of us all.
