With over 100 years of experience by our management team in the demolition industry Downwell offer a comprehensive range of demolition services in London and the South East.

Our work is primarily with Main Contractors, Cost and Project Management Practices, Property Developers, Architects, Structural Engineers, Civil Engineering Companies and Local Authorities.

The majority of our work is in inner city environments where location and access constantly provides us with new challenges. As a company, we learn from these allowing us to constantly change and improve our services.

Downwell are an NFDC (National Federation of Demolition Contractors) accredited demolition contractor. This means that we work to the highest of standards in the demolition industry. As an accredited demolition contractor, we are audited on a consistent basis for health & safety combined with working methods. This means our clients are always confident in appointing Downwell to carry out the most complex of demolition work.

Downwell carry out the full and part demolition of small to large buildings and structures and include the demolition of the following:

  • Factories
  • Industrial Estates
  • Care Homes
  • Hospitals
  • Cinemas and Theatres
  • Army Barracks
  • Community Halls
  • Railway Bridges
  • Residential Properties
  • High rise tower blocks

Demolition Methods

As an experienced demolition contractor there are a number of methods that we use dependent on the location of the building or structure. These are:

Standard Height—  Excavators are fitted with various attachments to progressively remove the elements of the structure

High Reach— Specialist high reach machines allow for a fast and safe demolition method.

Top Down (floor by floor) – This usually involves the building being encapsulated with scaffold and Monoflex. Smaller excavators are then lifted onto the roof and the building is reduced floor by floor.

Robotic— Remote controlled machines are used to demolish areas that may be deemed unsuitable or unsafe for operatives to work.

Community Liaison

With all our demolition projects community liaison is very important to us. We understand that anyone living or working close to a demolition project will have concerns. These are typically, noise, vibration, dust, site security and traffic movements. For this purpose we always appoint a Community Liaison Officer to each project. Their role is to establish clear communication channels with the stakeholders of each project so any problems can be discussed and rectified easily.

Recycling and Reuse of Materials

As a company we are target 96% of waste materials from site for recycling. We have invested heavily in specialist crushers and screeners to allow us to crush and leave materials on site where required for the construction phase. This reduces lorry movements to and from site and lowers our carbon footprint.
