Demolition of Quay House, Canary Wharf
An interesting and challenging demolition project in Canary Wharf. The site is located adjacent to the Docklands light railway. (Current Project at the time of writing 22nd June 2022)
Demolition Canary Wharf
Quay House is a former office building located in Canary Wharf E14. The Firethorn Trust owns it.
Scope of Works
• Asbestos Removal
• Protection Scaffolding
• Strip Out
• Demolition
• Removal of Slab and Foundations
The DLR
The building was within 2m of the DLR viaduct, so we have had to work very closely with the DLR to produce a method that would meet their strict health and safety requirements.
Tower Hamlets Council
Additionally, Tower Hamlets were involved in the method planning with DLR and we were required to ensure that 24/7 noise and dust monitoring was installed.
Protection Scaffolding
Working closely with the DLR and Inner City Scaffolding protection, scaffolding was designed and erected under a watching brief to ensure that it was clear of the viaduct. In addition, Protection scaffolding was erected to the sides and rear of the building to protect the pedestrian footpath running to the back of the building along the South Dock. This also serves to provide dust protection to the water.
Asbestos Removal and Strip Out
The building contained minimal asbestos, which Inner City Environmental removed. Strip-out work included removing suspended flooring, computer floors, and partitions.
Demolition
Demolition has begun at the time of writing (21st June 2022) using a high reach machine under a watching brief by DLR.
