We were appointed by Stace LLP following a successful competitive tender.

Community Liaison

In the lead in period before Downwell began Demolition in Colchester work on site our community liaison officer visited all the businesses situated close to the site and provided them with information on the demolition process and provided them with our contact details. The feedback from them is that they would be pleased to see it demolished as it had been subject to anti Social behaviour.

Protection of an electrical transformer

An electrical transformer was located between the warehouse and office buildings. Access had to be provided to this transformer 24/7 and a separate gate within the hoarding was created for access. The transformer was protected by wooden sheeting and a crash deck.

Removal of asbestos roof sheets

Upon the strip out of the warehousing the asbestos roof sheets were removed using the wet and tap method under a watching brief and controlled conditions by innercityenvironmental.

Demolition

Demolition was carried out by two machines working together separating materials for recycling. Work either side of the transformer was carried out very carefully pulling all debris away from the transformer in a controlled manner.

The office building was demolished using one of our high reach machines starting in the middle of the building leaving the main structural cross beam in place before demolishing left and right. Protective scaffolding was used to protect the pedestrian footpath and an operative was located outside to control pedestrians during this phase of demolition.

We achieved our targeted 96% of materials for recycling.
