Demolition Barking – Gascoigne Estate
This phase of the works involved the demolition of a series of three-story residential blocks set over a large area of the Gascoigne Estate.
The blocks required environmental cleaning to remove pigeon guano and waste left by the former residents. Asbestos surveys revealed both licensed and non-licensed ACM’s.
Inner City Environmental was appointed to carry out the environmental cleaning and asbestos removal.
Protection scaffolding was erected by Inner City Scaffolding.
Working in conjunction with Inner City Environmental, the blocks were cleansed, cleared of asbestos, and soft stripped in sequence by 30-tonne machines. Slab and foundations were grubbed up, and the materials were crushed on-site to form piling mats. The Wates appointed groundwork company followed behind Downwell to begin the redevelopment of the site.
Supporting the local community is an integral part of any project we undertake, and we were able to support Wates by donating materials for use in constructing a community garden.
We also donated 100 hi-vis vests to the local School for use on School trips and will also be hosting our ‘Demolition Challenge’ initiative in September with the School.
Reuse and recycling of materials
We achieved our target of 96% of materials from the site for reuse and recycling. We were able to recycle the UPVC frames from the buildings included within this.
